ABOUT ILAQ
The Indigenous Lawyers Association of Queensland Inc (ILAQ) was founded in 2007. We are a professional representative body with a purpose of advancing the profile and interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander law students and legal professionals in Queensland.
SOME OF THE ORGANISATION’S KEY OBJECTIVES ARE:
- to increase the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people undertaking legal education, and entering the Queensland legal profession;
- to implement programs and initiatives to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people entering and participating in the Queensland legal profession;
- to raise awareness and understanding of the issues affecting the participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Queensland legal profession; and
- to initiate, and develop relationships and collaborate with relevant professional bodies, government agencies and education institutions to support the work of the organisation.
The legal profession in Queensland and across Australia can only be enhanced by the increased recognition and participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Our current membership consists of and is open to members of the judiciary, barristers, solicitors and law students from across Queensland, both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous people.
